Joseph Altongy, M.Ed. serves as Principal of Village Green Charter School, bringing more than a decade of experience in education, school leadership, and college and career readiness. Throughout his career in education, he has remained focused on building strong relationships with students, maintaining high expectations, and creating opportunities that prepare students for success beyond high school.

Mr. Altongy began his career in education as a classroom teacher, spending seven years teaching Biology and Forensic Science at Central High School. He later joined Village Green Charter School as College and Career Coordinator, where he worked closely with students to support college planning, career exploration, financial aid, dual enrollment, internships, and other postsecondary opportunities. He subsequently served as Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning, focusing on curriculum and instruction, teacher development, assessment, academic supports, and college and career readiness, before being appointed Principal.

Mr. Altongy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University and a Master of Education in Urban Teaching from Providence College. He is also a certified Building Level Administrator in Rhode Island. As Principal, he oversees academics, school culture, student support, staff development, and college and career readiness. His leadership is focused on strengthening teaching and learning, expanding meaningful college and career opportunities, and maintaining a school environment built on consistency, high expectations, strong relationships, and support for every student.

Prior to entering education, Mr. Altongy served for 12 years as a police officer in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. His background in both public safety and education has provided him with more than two decades of experience serving young people, families, and the community. Those experiences continue to shape his approach to leadership and his belief in the importance of relationships, accountability, service, and ensuring that students have meaningful opportunities to succeed in college, career, and life.
